Mexico is an oddly undiscovered place, at least to many Americans. This is truly a shame as Mexico is a nation of unique and untold beauty. Where shall we begin? Dive into the Marieta Islands where a striking hole atop the lush green beach opens up into a secret beach, a secret slice of heaven. The Marieta Islands, west of Puerto Vallarta, are the very picture of every tropical daydream you have ever had.
Tulum is another paradise on Earth. About 80 miles south of Cancún you can find Mayan ruins towering over the sea. Visit the immaculate beach. Visit the Temple of Frescoes and the Temple of the Descending God. There is even an underground river where you can snorkel inside of caves. Overall, the Yucatán Peninsula has thousands of blue-water sinkholes. They are real and they are spectacular. The Yucatán Peninsula also offers wondrous Xcaret, a fascinating eco-archeological park.
Mexico is of course also famous for Teotihuacán Pyramids. Shrouded in mystery, and built around 300 B.C., these magnificent structures rival the grandeur of Ancient Rome. Historians have still not figured out why they were abandoned before the emergence of the great Aztecs.
If you head slightly south of the great Pyramids you will find the undulating Mexican capital, Mexico City. One can find Diego Rivera murals, ancient Templo Mayor, and historic Catedral Metropolitana de México. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is the centerpiece to the city and will take your breath away. Whether it is stunning beaches, mountains, pyramids, ruins or cities, Mexico’s magnetic allure should not be missed.
